Peterborough, NH – On March 6th, the Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter received a laptop computer for its caseworker to use in the field when interviewing clients. What got the laptop to that point was a confluence of events and good will from three local companies: FlashPoint Technology, American Personalized Products (a division of American Steel), and Sequoya Technologies Group.
Robert Pettegrew of the Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter approached Sequoya last October to ask for help in acquiring a low-cost laptop. Tom Strickland, President, met with Mr. Pettegrew and told him about the charitable donation program Sequoya was just launching. Through this program, each of Sequoya's clients may designate a local non-profit to receive an in-kind donation on its behalf. MATS signed up to participate in the program, and soon received the support of one of Sequoya's clients: American Steel.
MATS' account was still a ways from being able to cover a laptop but their need was urgent. Mr. Strickland knew that another client, FlashPoint Technology, had an older laptop that was going unused. He called Maggie Ramos, Corporate Affairs Manager at FlashPoint, to ask if they would be willing to donate it to MATS. Ms. Ramos enthusiastically agreed. Sequoya used the credits in MATS' account to cover the cost of securely erasing the hard drive and installing a new operating system so that the laptop was ready to use again.
In the end, MATS got the laptop it needed absolutely free. It's a wonderful illustration of how small gifts from companies working together can add up to make a big difference.
Installing your own DSL?
Most providers include a CD that allows you to install your new DSL modem. Unfortunately, their CD will also install a lot of unnecessary software that you may prefer...
